Norfolk Broads

Yachting on the Broads

I

went sailing on the Norfolk Broads again this year. This time we had a bigger boat; a 36 foot yacht.

It was a pretty adventurous two days. We managed to run aground a couple of times, my brother nearly fell in and lost his mobile phone. We managed to get tangled up in a racing dinghy’s marker buoy dragging it down one of the broads with the dinghies chasing after us as they tried to go around their buoy.

I expect we’ll be banned from returning next year.

Mach Loop

Mach Loop

I

arranged to meet up with some fellow photographers from the Photography Forum in the hills of North Wales. The location is known as the “Mach Loop”, a series of hills and valleys where military pilots train in low level flyng.

We were there to take photos of military aircraft who use the hills and valleys for low level training.

It was a very long day, leaving at 4 in the morning and returning around 11pm that night.

I took a few scene setting shots on the iPhone.

Sunset

Sunset over Harkness

I

was putting up the Christmas lights and realised I needed quite a few spare bulbs.

I must have visited about 6 shops in the town centre. Most didn’t have bulbs, those that did, didn’t have the right type.

So I drove down the the garden centre at Harkness, between Hitchin and Letchworth.

As I approached the place I noticed there was a really nice sky developing.

I grabbed a quick shot from the garden centre car park.

Norfolk Broads

M

y father, brother and sister, hired a sailing boat on the Norfolk Broads for a few days, so we went up to meet them for the day.

The weather wasn’t great but it remained dry until we ended our day of sailing at one of the pubs, whereupon it absolutely chucked it down.

I took most of my photos on my compact camera but I did take a few on the iPhone.

Kimpton Church

Kimpton Church

S

adly, one of the members of my choir died recently.

The choir sang at his funeral service at the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Kimpton village.

After the service I took a few moments to wander around the grounds of the church taking a few photos.

Letchworth

Around the Cinema

T

hese shots are all taken within a few yards of the Broadway Cinema in Letchworth town centre.

The Town Lodge is opposite. These two shots were taken with one of the iPhone HDR apps. Then there are two hots of the Broadway itself, one of the entrance and the other of one of the iconic windows.

The sign is opposite the cinema beside the Town Hall, it forms a saying as you walk around the small square it is beside.

Cycle Ride through the Farm

I

went out on a bike ride today. I started off in the town centre and took a few photos of the fountain in the Broadway, and one of my favourite Letchworth buildings, the Nexus Building. Then I headed out into the countryside.

I managed to find about the most waterlogged, boggy field system in the whole of Hertfordshire, but managed my way through it and came out by a farm on the A507 from Baldock to Cottered.

Naturally, I stopped off for a few shots on the phone around the farm yard.

The shots displayed here have been processed in the Painteresque App, apart from the last one which was done in Popsicolor.

Stanborough Lakes

A Walk around the Lakes

I

managed to turn up for work an hour early the other day, so I took the opportunity for a little walk around Stanborough Lakes which is opposite where I work.

I used to spend many happy hours at the lakes when I was a kid. We were boating, sailing or generally mucking about.
